2018 Music, Arts and Crabs … Gulf Coast Style

Fun, new memories were made with family and friends – old and new – at the 2018 Texas Crab Fest in Crystal Beach! Thanks to the efforts of our volunteers and sponsors we had another outstanding year, pulling together to bring Gulf Coast style Music, Art and Crabs to an estimated 8,000 visitors!

Festival goers enjoyed a full weekend of family entertainment featuring great live music, awesome food, carnival rides, vendor booths, events, contests and games, all kicking off Friday, May 11 with the raising of the Flag and a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem by the Crenshaw School children’s choir. The Bolivar Peninsula Chamber and Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce partnered for a grand Ribbon Cutting ceremony, as the community came together for a wonderful tribute to Anne Willis for her 33 years of service to the Texas Crab Festival.

Headliners Shooter Jennings, Jack Ingram, Bag of Donuts and Scott McGill topped off the list of music entertainment, along with Sandy G y Los Gavilanes, Jason Allen, David Joel, the Cadillacs and Mayeaux & Broussard. Local talent also got the spotlight with performances by Haley Comeaux and Bris Crider, as well as the brand new Bolivar’s Got Talent show.

Weekend activities included an exciting Live Auction, a Silent Auction and our big Prize Raffle where we gave away a custom golf cart, Carnival cruise for 2 and a $1,000 gift card. Larry Flanagan acted as emcee to the festivities. We also hosted an RV Show, brought to you by the Festival’s Presenting Sponsor, DeMontrond RV, along with a Boat Show, Car Show and even a Harley-Davidson ride experience. Events included the Donnie Vondra Memorial Texas 2-Step Dance Contest, Texas Crab Fest 5K Run (over 250 participants), Wiener Dog Races, Crab Legs contest, Washers and Cornhole Tournaments, and the Crab Gumbo Cook Off which raised over $1700 for the Lone Survivor Foundation.

The Crab Fest welcomed 18 brand new sponsors this year to reach a total over 60. Their generous support not only made the Crab Fest possible, but also enabled us to donate 100% of net proceeds from the festival to Texas Crab Festival Charities, a 501 © 3 non-profit. TCF Charities has already awarded over $62,000 from this year’s Crab Fest back into the Bolivar community in the form of 16 scholarships, donations to Crenshaw and High Island schools, the Lions Club, and to local youth for summer camps.
